Toa Samoa have another opportunity to challenge the Kangaroos on rugby league's biggest stage after their World Cup semi-final against Australia was officially confirmed.

The teams will meet at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Sunday 8 November, with kick-off scheduled for 8:05pm AEDT.

It will be their first World Cup knockout meeting since the 2022 final in Manchester, when Australia defeated Samoa 30–10.

That tournament marked a breakthrough for Samoa, who became the first Pacific nation to reach a men's Rugby League World Cup final.

Four years later, Samoa have another chance to reach the decider.

Their qualification was secured despite Sunday's narrow 20–18 loss to Tonga.

Samoa showed their attacking ability against Tonga, with Brian To'o scoring twice and Ronald Volkman helping the side take a late lead before Addin Fonua-Blake's decisive try.

Australia enter the semi-finals unbeaten, having defeated New Zealand, Fiji and the Cook Islands during the group stage.

One concern for Samoa is the fitness of Chanel Harris-Tavita, who injured his hamstring against Tonga and is awaiting further assessment.

The confirmed matchup gives Samoa another opportunity to test itself against the defending world champions.

The winner will advance to the final at Suncorp Stadium on 15 November.
